Reticence
Stepping out of the 7-Eleven, a motorcycle pulls up. Two radiant Thai girls in pretty black dresses and warm makeup. I am about to open my Almond Magnum but struggle as my eyes are glued to them. Feast enough for the eyes! Dessert enough! The one in front notices my stare, and returns a charming, suggestive smile … with the scent of a question. What does she ask? But I am too shy. Making a flustered, incongruous comment to Tom, still trying to tear open the goddamn ice cream wrapper (a task suddenly of enormous difficulty), I move off.
Blast! Reacting this way will get me nowhere. Thai girls aren’t as bashful as Chinese girls it seems … they aren’t afraid to look if they like. The question is … who is out to have fun, and who is out for cash? “No money, no honey”, honeybuns.
