朋友,

We will cross the Chinese-Nepali border sometime tomorrow. This seems a somewhat momentous event to me, as our epic Land Cruiser romp from Lhasa to here (Zhangmu) has come to an end and I prepare to enter a land where knowledge of Mandarin does not necessarily earn me bonus points. Another ramification is that I will no longer be able to be reached via my cell phone: no more pithy SMS’ or reassuring calls, unfortunately.

明天就要去尼泊尔了!过境之后我的手机号码就会无法使用,似乎与我的汉语一样毫无用处!可喜可喜!

Not to disturb you any longer than necessary, though, as I hope to continue these periodic but infrequent mass emails to let you know what is going on in my life, friend! Hopefully the locality of internet cafes in foreign lands will cooperate with this wish!
